CDC Annex/Gunfighter Service Center traffic flow change

Personnel traveling in the vicinity of the CDC Annex/Gunfighter Service
Center parking lot need to be aware they now have to stop at the crosswalk
leading from the parking lot to the Annex. Stop signs have been installed
in both directions.

PARENTING RESOURCE

Here is a good parenting resource for our military families. It addresses returning from deployments that many of our airmen should find useful.

CROSS WALK SAFETY

Gunfighters,

The safety office was recently informed of a near-miss involving  a child who was  transitioning across a crosswalk near the base school during the early morning hours.  After reviewing the incident it was determined that the child failed to press the crosswalk lighting button prior to entering the roadway and simply walked onto the busy crosswalk without looking.  As parents, it is vital that we train our children to stop, engage the crosswalk lighting, and wait for traffic to stop prior to entering the roadway.  It is also necessary for all of us to be reminded that using a crosswalk does not protect us from being hit by inattentive drivers.  I am asking for your assistance along with the assistance of school officials to remind children on safe crosswalk procedures, especially during this time of the year when it is darker during school reporting.   Drivers are also cautioned to be attentive in the early morning hours especially when driving on Gunfighter Avenue, Eagle and Mellen Drive where the majority of crosswalks are located.

GOV'T SHUT DOWN BASE INFORMATION

The Gunfighters page has updates listed as to what is going on base wide thus far.  I have attached the FSS flyer, however, they have updated their status on a few things for clarification.  I will paste the information below.  To my knowledge, the commissary will be closed starting tomorrow.  The BX/shopette will remain open.

The Airman & Family Readiness Center will continue to provide
services in the following areas: Readiness for pre-deployment and Reintegration, Military Family Life Counseling, & Casualty Assistance. All other programs are unavailable until further notice. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

Gunfighters! We have updates to the FSS closures due to the government shutdown. Please see below:

Education Center: Tuition Assistance
All Tuition Assistance requests approved for courses beginning on or after 1 Oct 2013 are contingent upon funding for fiscal year 2014. Due to the lack of an FY14 budget, all current... MilTA requests are suspended pending a budget resolution. Please be advised that you may incur a financial responsibility for your course(s) should there be no resolution or if the resolution is not retroactive to 1 Oct 13. Please be prepared to use other financial assistance. Please continue to check the AF Virtual Education Center (AFVEC) via the AF Portal for more information.

Education Center: Test Administration
All WAPS, PME, CDC, and other associated tests administered at the Education Center are currently on hold due to the shutdown. FSS/Education Center will provide updates next if absence of TCOs continues through next week.

Education Center: Classes/Course
Current evening classes held at Education Center will continue as normal.

A&FRC: Pre-Separation/TAPS Briefing
Pre-Separations and TAPS briefings are cancelled until further notice.

MPS:
Until further notice the MPS will not be able to distribute products produced by MilPDS (EPR/OPR Shells, Décor 6s, assignment RIPs, etc.) in addition to granting access to certain applications such as MilPDS, PRDA. For questions regarding MilPDS products, individuals can contact the applicable office within the MPS. For questions about access to personnel applications, they can contact MSgt Wright at 8-1973 or MSgt Huntley at 8-6382.

Col Sarady Tan, 366th Medical Group commander, provided the following statement regarding how the government shutdown will affect the MDG's operations.

"The 366 MDG will remain open during the government shutdown and the hours of operation will remain the same. Inpatient, acute and urgent outpatient care in our medical and dental facilities will continue, as will private sector care under TRICARE. While some delays can be expected, the impact on routine patient care and appointment availability should be minimal."

I will try to update as I am made aware of things.  However, please feel free to check the Gunfighter's FB page for updates as we all endure this process together.

Thanks,
Tami

Senior Spouse/Key Spouse Crisis Response training/gov't shut down

Email from Tina earlier today...before she was sent home.

Good morning all,

The Senior Spouse/Key Spouse Crisis Response training scheduled for Oct 16th IS STILL A GO!  In the event, we are still in government shutdown on the 16th MSgt Fouke and TSgt Hughes WILL STILL conduct the crisis response training.  The training will be from 0900-1200 at the Gunfighter Club (I spoke with Mr. Rhodes yesterday and the club will remain open during this time of shutdown).

The first hour of training will consist of explaining who will participate in the EFAC (Emergency Family Assistance Center) and assigned roles and responsibilities.  The rest of the time will be spent on table top exercises for a hands on approach to understanding how an EFAC works.  So far we have 21 spouses signed up for training.  To ensure everyone gets signed up please email MSgt Melvin Fouke (melvin.fouke@us.af.mil) or TSgt Travis Hughes (travis.hughes.1@us.af.mil).  This training is not mandatory; however, it is highly encouraged for all Senior Spouses and Key Spouses to attend.

PLEASE DO NOT REPLY TO THIS EMAIL AS I WILL BE OUT OF THE OFFICE UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE AND WILL NOT BE ABLE TO RESPOND BACK.

Thank you and have a fabulous week!!!
