Our QR Code!

The Spouses are getting high-tech with our new QR code.
You will begin seeing this code on different fliers to allow people to scan it with their phones and direct them to our blog.  Our goal is to connect with more spouses, let them know we are here and invite them to join us.
Special thanks to TSgt Hernandez who hooked us up with the QR code.
 You ROCK!

Spouses @ Work - 1

Many of our spouses work.  Many of our spouses have home businesses.  We want to highlight them by listing their business name and website in the right hand column but we also want to allow them to share a little more about their work here as a post.  If you know of someone who might be interested in their services, please support the MDG spouses and pass on their info.

Buy LOCALLY

How many of you went in to the old purple or was it green? Mulberry craft store?  HUGE and spread out!  Well, they have moved locations (next to the pink tattoo parlor) and I admit, I thought this place was not too inviting from the outside.  I went in yesterday to check on the COOKBOOKS they are selling for us (btw, they've sold 2) and I was pleasantly surprised at what I saw.  They have an entire wall dedicated to scrapbook paper, Melissa & Doug crafts, stickers and stamps for kids, their regular knick-knacks and they also had some interesting classes including kids' painting parties.  One class in particular, was making the "Home is where the Air Force Sends Us" signs where you put each place you've  been.  On their website go to "Signs Hand Crafted For You."  Like, I said, I was pleasantly surprised with the changes they had made.  If you're looking for a crafty supply or unique gift, I'd definitely check there first before driving to Boise or paying for shipping & handling charges.  Their hours are: Tues to Fri, 10 am to 6 pm.  Saturday 10 am to 5 pm and closed Sunday, Monday and holidays.
You can also like them on Facebook.

National Parks Offering FREE Entrance

----------------------------------------------------
YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK NEWS RELEASE
----------------------------------------------------

Thanking America’s Armed Forces
Active Duty U.S. Military Offered Free Entrance to All National Parks

To show its appreciation for those who serve in the U.S. Military, on May
19 – Armed Forces Day – the National Park Service will begin issuing an annual pass offering free entrance to Yellowstone and the all 397 national parks for active duty military members and their dependents.

Active duty members of the U.S. Military and their dependents can pick up their pass at any park entrance  station.  They must show a current, valid military identification card to obtain their pass. More information is available at www.nps.gov/findapark/passes.htm.

This military version of the America the Beautiful National Parks and Federal Recreational Lands Pass also permits free entrance to sites managed by the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, the Bureau of Land Management, the Bureau of Reclamation, and the U.S. Forest Service. The pass is also available at these locations.

“Through the years, military members, especially those far from home in times of conflict, have found inspiration in America’s patriotic icons and majestic landscapes, places like the Statue of Liberty and the Grand Canyon that are cared for by the National Park Service and symbolize the nation that their sacrifices protect,” said National Park Service Director Jonathan B. Jarvis. “This new pass is a way to thank military members and their families for their service and their sacrifices.”

National parks and the military have strong ties going back to the establishment of Yellowstone as the world’s first national park in 1872.

The U.S. Cavalry watched over America’s national parks and did double duty, serving as the first park rangers until the National Park Service was created 44 years later. During World War II, many parks were set aside for the training and care of military personnel. Today, dozens of national parks commemorate military battles and achievements.
